Santa Barbara Anti-Dispensary Hearing
| By Americans for Safe Access | Published September 14, 2009 |
Good Morning,
Can you inform activists of the possible change in our ordinance that would make it nearly impossible for existing and future dispensaries to open/operate in Santa Barbara, California. We own a dispensary in Santa Barbara and have an ordinance that allows for dispensaries in the City of Santa Barbara. We are one of four dispensaries that were operating before the ordinance. So, we have a grandfathered location that is not conforming and will need to relocate in 2011. However, this Tuesday (September 15, 2009 in City Hall at 12pm the Ordinance Committee will be allowing the public to voice the opinions and the committee will take opinions in account for the direction they will take). They want to change the ordinance restricting dispensaries having to be 500 feet to 1000 feet from each other. The current ordinance is nearly impossible to find a location due to strict areas dispensaries can not be located based on parks, schools, other dispensaries and the small size of Santa Barbara along with little inventory of commercial space.
Safe Access for patients along with dispensary options is important to encourage these operations to provide the best service possible.
Dispensaries have a major impact on the illegal grows that take place in the National Forests. We recently had an 80,000 acre forest fire caused from a fire in an illegal marijuana grow in Santa Barbara County. The medicine provided to our dispensary comes from local ma and pa farmers. Not large illegal commercial grows.
Please assit where possible. Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Allen at AMG
