City Council To Debate On Ordinance Regarding Collective Regulations

By Americans for Safe Access
Published January 18, 2010

The Los Angeles City Council will debate regulations for medical cannabis collectives again on Tuesday, and may vote to adopt an ordinance that day. Councilmembers must still decide how far patients’ collectives must be from sensitive uses, including schools, places of worship, parks, and more.

You can get public transit information online http://www.metro.net/index.asp. Arrive early to complete a public speaker’s card for agenda item 14. Please maintain a respectful demeanor at all times during the meeting, even if you disagree with comments by speakers or City Councilmembers.

There is still time to suggest improvements to City Councilmembers. Visit: http://safeaccessnow.org/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=4641 to find out what you can do to help before Tuesday’s meeting.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck told reporters at the Daily News that patients’ collectives are not magnets for crime, as has been suggested throughout the debate on regulations. Councilmembers should carefully consider the Chief’s comments when making final decisions about how tough to make the ordinance. City Council To Debate On Ordinance Regarding Collective Regulations

By Americans for Safe Access
Published December 9, 2009

We need medical cannabis supporters back at Los Angeles City Hall again on Wednesday, December 9, to make a last minute stand against unreasonable restrictions on safe access. The City Council approved amendments today requiring that medical cannabis patients’ associations be located 1,000 feet from a laundry list of sensitive uses – including any property used as a residence. That could exclude virtually all of the city’s commercial zones! Despite significant progress in improving the city’s draft ordinance, this surprise change could make it nearly impossible to establish a legally organized and operated collective in the city!
